Storms and Seafood: Sample the Best That Westport, WA Has to Offer

Every winter, when the Pacific Ocean returns to its most dramatic self; whipping winds, rolling tides, and waves that rise and tumble over the jetties, Westport embraces its epic weather and rich fishing culture with one of the most deliciously unique festivals in the Northwest: Storms & Seafood.

Presented by Westport’s Fresh Catch, this year’s event lasts for a long weekend at the end of this month: Thursday, January 29th-Monday, February 2nd, and invites locals and visitors to indulge in the spectacular combination of wild coastal weather and fresh, mouthwatering local seafood.

Westport is the #1 port in the state of Washington for volume of seafood landed, and often in the top 15 in the country, so fresh, local seafood is always in abundance.

The Food

With fifteen restaurants and four markets participating, you’re sure to find something extraordinary. Many chefs are creating special dishes just for the occasion, like Saltwater Saloon’s Steamer Clams and the Spicy Dungeness Crab Roll from Aloha Alabama BBQ.

Fun and Informative Interactive Activities

We talked to Molly Bold at Westport’s Fresh Catch about the event, and while she loves the food, she loves the events, talks, and interactive classes even more.

“Last year, crab shaking at Merino’s was a hoot, and you get to keep all the crab that you crack,” Bold said. “And this year the highlight for me is a new event we’re hosting at Westport Winery—a panel of some of our retired commercial fishermen telling tales about their years on the water.”

Other events include a tuna filleting demonstration and tuna canning information at the Maritime Museum, a Brady’s Oyster tour and shucking demo, and a Shellfish Health and Commercial FIshing Overview with Tracy Barrie at Saltwater Sips Cafe.

Why It Matters

Beyond the food and fun, Storms & Seafood highlights Westport’s identity as a working fishing town and a gateway to the Pacific. The festival’s mission is to showcase Westport’s vibrant local seafood industry, the dynamic, stunning natural environment of the Washington coast, and Westport’s strong community spirit during the quieter season. It’s not just about surfers and summer tourists—winter’s all about locals and visitors celebrating place, weather and harvest.

If you’re a fan of fresh seafood, dramatic coastal scenery and most importantly—unique local festivals, Storms & Seafood should be on your winter calendar. It’s a celebration of coastal living at its wildest and most delicious. So grab your passport, buckle up for some gusty ocean winds and come enjoy a winter experience that’s as bold as it is flavorful.
